Murrayfield Edinburgh, the home of Scottish Rugby

Murrayfield is the Mecca for all Scottish rugby fans and is only a 20-30 minute walk from the Herald House Hotel. The ultramodern 67,500-seater stadium is recognised as one of the finest sporting stadia in Europe and is home to Scottish rugby internationals as well as other sporting and non sporting events.

Over the years Murrayfield has been the scene of both triumph and disaster for Scottish rugby fans. No one who was there will ever forget that incredible spine-tingling day in 1990 when Scotland beat England 13-7 to win the Grand Slam. The roar inside the stadium was said to have been heard all over the city.

Huge music events are staged at Murrayfield. Artists such as U2 and Oasis have filled the stadium and raised the rafters. Murrayfield famously hosted the Live8 concert in 2005 organised by Bob Geldof.

Beside the stadium, on the north side, is Murrayfield ice rink. It’s open seven days a week and costs £4/£3.50 for a session. Skates can be hired for £1.50/£1. It’s quite a cool place to hang out, especially for teenagers who flock to the ice skating discos on Saturday evenings.

Murrayfield ice rink is also home to the Edinburgh Capitals ice hockey team who play in the NHL Elite league. Matches can be lively and passionate affairs. Capitals’ home matches tend to be played on either Saturdays or Sundays.
